The largest annual film festival in Swedish speaking Finland
VERA Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Mariehamn, the capital of the Åland Islands. It is the largest festival in Finland to be held in Swedish. The festival screens films from local, Nordic and international film makers. Directors from all around the world attend the festival every year and also participate in discussions and Q&As after each screening.
The theme of the festival varies every year depending on what films have recently been produced around the world.
The winner is chosen by the audience using a voting system where 1 point is the worst and 8 is the best. The winner is announced at the annual award ceremony on Saturday evening. This year’s ceremony will be held at the local restaurant Umbra.
VERA Film Festival was first held in 1998, meaning that this year will be its 20th anniversary and we’ve packed the schedule full of very exciting films to celebrate.
