The largest annual film festival in Swedish speaking Finland
VERA Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Mariehamn, the capital of the Åland Islands. It is the largest festival in Finland to be held in Swedish. The festival screens films from local, Nordic and international film makers. Directors from all around the world attend the festival every year and also participate in discussions and Q&As after each screening.
The theme of the festival varies every year depending on what films have recently been produced around the world.
The winner is chosen by the audience using a voting system where 1 point is the worst and 8 is the best. The winner is announced at the annual award ceremony on Saturday evening. This year’s ceremony were held at the cinema Bio Savoy. VERA Film Festival was first held in 1998, meaning that the festival is now over 20 years old.
